“Everything I created is absolutely useless. From a structural point of view design is totally futile. A useful activity is astronomer, biologist or something like that. But design is nothing”, those were the words of the French designer Philippe Starck to the magazine Leben of the German weekly newspaper Die Zeit.

“I tried to give my products a little bit of sense and energy. But even when I gave the best of myself it was absurd”, added Starck, a design icon since the 80s who designed numerous products of mass consumption.

“I designed so many things, without really caring. Maybe all these years were necessary to make me realise that we don’t need anything in the end. We always possess to much”, said the French designer.

“In two years I will quit, that is for sure. I will do something else, I don’t know what yet. It will be another form of expression. A new weapon, faster, more violent and lighter than design.”
