| 8/23/2007: Ruhr 2010: symposium on music industry | (Published by Catherine Daraspe) | On August 24th the Ruhr 2010, head organisation of the European Capital of Culture Ruhr 2010, and POPplus invite to make an inventory of the Ruhr region’s music industries and to discuss the future: What can be done to promote the music industry in the Ruhr region? Which supporting measures are most effective?
The Dortmund-based POPplus founder Tari illustrates the starting position as follows: “Labels and sound carrier businesses have had rough times. The last years have been very hard in economical terms for these sectors of the music industry. The music media also had to adapt to the present circumstances, to invest in new formats and to adjust their products to the consumers’ and users’ preferences.”
Following the first panel “Inventory” there will be a debate on “Perspectives and Programmes” with well-known representatives from the Dutch and Austrian music industry who can look back on real successes in the domain. The question is simple and difficult at the same time: Which measures lead to success? The Ruhr region hopes to learn from foreign countries’ examples.
The workshop “Music Industry Ruhr 2010” is the first of its kind in Germany to activate and gather on a regional level the whole music sector and its network in order to initiate a strategic debate. The idea meets large response as show the names of the speakers: Jochen Rausch, head of programme at 1Live, Bernd Kowalzik, general manager of Roof Music and Dieter Gorny, artistic director for creative industries at Ruhr2010.
Participation is only possible after registration.
