On the first of August the French president Nicolas Sarkozy has addressed a mission letter to his culture minister Christine Albanel: her top mission consists in democratising culture. Consequently cultural and artistic education becomes a priority. Theory and praxis lessons in arts and music will be compulsory. A close and sustainable cooperation with the education ministry is programmed to ensure the implementation of these measures.

 

Furthermore the public’s access to museums and cultural heritage sites shall be facilitated – whether this will be enabled through gratuitousness or a cultural pass system is currently checked. Media are asked to deal more intensely with subjects such as cultural heritage or cultural diversity.

 

The support programme for the music and cultural industries will be put into practice in cooperation with the ministry of economy, financing and employment: the digital music offer has to be improved and the fight against piracy strengthened. Music industry and the press are asked to adapt to the digital world.
