| 9/16/2008: URBACT Culture report on line | (Published by Caroline Ceytte ) | In a recent report the French interdepartmental delegation for urban development [Délégation interministérielle à la ville] takes stock of the measures taken by the URBACT Culture Network uniting 16 European cities. Over the last years cultural activities have become more important in Europe, especially as creative industries have shown to be a significant economic factor. The notions of “cultural activities” and “creative industries” embrace a variety of activities in the creation, production, distribution and consumption of symbolic products like music, theatre, dance, visual arts, radio and television. They also comprise certain aspects of cultural heritage. These “things” have become essential parts of people’s lifestyle and collective consciousness. The recent report by URBACT Culture examines the impact of cultural activities and creative industries on cities.
