| 9/23/2008: Fernando Pessoa House all set for the new season | (Published by Vera Dantas ) | Several exhibitions, an international congress and the recreation of the room of the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa mark the program for the season 2008/2009 of the Fernando Pessoa House, which aims at being a centre of creative explosion. Last place where Fernando Pessoa lived, between 1920 and 1935, the number 16 of the street Coelho da Rocha in Lisbon today gathers works written by and for the poet, including almost all its personal library, with handwritten notes of the author.
Nevertheless, the financial management of the house is «very hard and bureaucratic», since it does not have revenue of its own and is constantly dependent of autarchic decisions, according to the director of the building, Inês Pedrosa, in declarations to Lusa News Agency. For that reason, Pedrosa is in favor of its transformation into a foundation, a change expected for 2009 that will allow this public interest monument to have associates and receive funding, among other measures to make the place profitable.
Despite the difficulties, the managing team is very motivated and already announced an ambitious activities program, with the complete recreation of the poet’s room, a four month homage to Pessoa’s heteronyms and, next November, the first international congress with experts and artists dedicated to Pessoa, just to name a few.
