10/15/2008: Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster transforming the Tate Modern(Published by Caroline Ceytte )

According to curator Jessica Morgan the project created by the French artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster for the London Tate Modern constitutes a whole exhibition in itself. The work entitled TH.2058 transforms the Turbine Hall into a futuristic hideaway for victims of the climate change. 200 bunk beds share the space with oversized modern art.

The impression of a refuge inside a museum is even more intensified by the fact that the exhibited works are inspired by existing art but presented 25% bigger. Visitors will recognize Louise Bourgeois’ “Maman”, Alexander Calder’s “Flamingo” and “Apple Core” by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. Only “Felix” is an original by Maurizio Cattelan.

Born in Strasburg in 1965, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster has joined the small circle of artists having created works for the Unilever Series at Turbine Hall. The Series were inaugurated in 2000 with Louise Bourgeois, followed by Juan Munoz, Anish Kapoor und Doris Salcedo.
