The conference aims at further developing the concept of co-ordinating culture industries policies that was initiated during the Austrian Council Presidency. The requirements of culture industries policies will be discussed from the perspective of the municipalities, the regions, the member states and the European Union.

The conference approaches culture industries in Europe from various angles; the point of departure is the study on culture industries in Europe commissioned by the Commission. It will then focus on European culture industries in the context of global competition and on culture industries in Asia and Africa.
