| 3/13/2009: Creative industries – winners from the Austrian tax reform | (Published by Catherine Daraspe) | According to creative wirtschaft austria (cwa), the special interest organisation of the Austrian creative industries, the country’s 30.000 creative businesses will benefit from the new fiscal reform coming into effect in April and bringing tax relief to all jobholders with retroactive effect from January 1st on.
Getrud Leimüller, president of cwa, underlines:”The agreed modifications (uprating of the income tax limit, diminution of the marginal tax rate, introduction of a new tax exempt amount from 2010 on) precisely meet the needs of creative entrepreneurs. Finally those who usually benefit only indirectly from the effects induced by measures supporting the economy will get some impetus.”
Several studies prove creative enterprises to contribute to the global economy’s innovation performance and creation of value by providing design, inventive marketing, well-directed communication strategies and new business models. Especially given the current economic crisis the contribution of creative industries could be substantial.
The Austrian fiscal reform has a volume of over 3 billion Euros and mainly comprises a tariff reform amounting to 2.4 billion Euros, measures in favour of families amounting to 510 million Euros and a tax exempt amount for entrepreneurs and freelancers amounting to 300 million Euros.
